In Oct. of 2007, I became disillusioned with the large corporate payroll companies and the constant need for profits to appease stockholders. I felt that if I could deliver a more client-centric and personal approach to providing payroll services, we could carve out a niche in the market. That is how I got in touch with Dean Lucente. In January 2008, Kris Johnson and I opened the AmCheck Portland office.

Amcheck Portland is located at 10220 SW Greenburg Rd. Suite 135, Portland, OR 97223. Our office is near the Washington Square Mall at SR 217 and Greenburg Rd in the Lincoln Center office complex in building 3.

AmCheck Portland serves all private sector businesses in the 5 to 500 employee space.

We strive to continue providing Human Capital Management that is backed by state of the art technology which is delivered and serviced by a locally owned and operated service center.

Education is important and as such, all staff are Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) certified and provided ongoing training to keep them apprised of the ever-changing legislation relative to payroll and human resources. Our compensation is above standard competitive wages and includes a generous 401(k) match and benefits package.

Kris Johnson is the Director of Operations for AmCheck Portland. While working at a competing company in Phoenix Arizona Kris knew he could offer a better solution and a higher level of customer service. Kris decided to join the AmCheck team and partnered with Tom Reap to open the Portland office.

Kris was born in Portland and attended Oregon State University from 1998-2002. He loves spending time with his wife and two children. Kris and his family like to attend country music concerts and going camping.

Tom Reap is the Managing Partner and President of AmCheck Portland. He oversees all sales and operations of the Portland AmCheck office, bringing a customer-centric approach to the organization. As the Managing Partner, he manages all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the AmCheck Portland office which include sales, client services, tax, ACH, accounting, and software support. AmCheck Portland caters to the private small/medium business sector, typically working with closely held local companies who prefer working with other local companies. In 2008, Tom, along with his business partner, Kris Johnson, opened the AmCheck Portland office and created the first AmCheck office located in the Pacific Northwest.

Prior to opening AmCheck Portland, Tom was a Sales Manager and salesperson for a large, publicly traded company in the same industry. In his role, he mastered his customer focused approach by providing necessary professional services to the small/medium business community.

Tom is a proud Montana native and veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is an active member of the Oregon Executives Association and takes pride in volunteering and supporting various animal welfare organizations. Tom is also an avid motorcyclist and outdoor enthusiast.

She is good at what she does, so Amcheck does everything in their power to retain her and keep her there. They don't want to let a good person get away.
